When the Bible says, ”Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee,” it is not joking.

Imagine for a second that your father and mother had not come together and produced a precious soul like you. No matter what the circumstances, thank God for your parents, respect them, and definitely give them their flowers while they are alive and not when they are about to be lowered six feet under.

I’ve walked in the shoes of what I’m preaching about, and that’s why I confidently encourage others not to make the same mistake. Having lost both parents, I know what I’m talking about.

The month of May is famous for honoring mothers, and the month of June comes shortly after and fathers are honored. My question to you is how many times do you honor your parents? Once a year? On Mother’s Day or Father’s Day?

Twice a year, every day of his or her life, or, still worse, at his or her funeral?

My prayer is that after reading my story, the Lord will place it in your heart to do much more than you could ever have dreamed of by way of honoring your parents.

My father could not hurt a fly, and I mean it. He was gentle to a fault. The only problem I had with him is that he was young at heart. At home, he loved to dress like a young man with his T-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes to match. I teased him a lot and sometimes sulked for hours if he refused to give me a piece of his clothing that I wanted, because it was “cool.” Unlike my mother, who was the disciplinarian in the family, I got away with a lot of things with my dad. We were good friends.

The last time I saw him was in 1991, when I was getting ready to travel overseas to America. He was cracking me up with his usual jokes, and I can still hear myself laughing uncontrollably. He saw me off to the airport, and I promised to be back in a few months to see him. Do you think if I knew it was the last time we would be together in the flesh, I would not have given him the tightest hug ever? What is so painful is I was always too shy to kiss my dad. That would have been the ideal time to show him the affection I had hidden for years.

While I was here in America, I used to send him his favorite Lagerfeld and Arrmani colognes and some shirts here and there. Then I decided that instead of sending it bit by bit I would start filling a suitcase and send a lot at once. For some months he didnâ€™t get anything from me but an assurance that I would surprise him in due time. That “due time” never came, because my dad unexpectedly went to be with the Lord.

I had the privilege of buying the suit he was buried in. It was the first and only suit from me, and he wore it to the grave.

The truth is I could have afforded to buy him a suit every other month, but it never occurred to me. “Daddy is going to be around for a long time,” I thought, innocently taking for granted his time on earth. After his death, I was tormented and regretted not doing more for my beloved father, since he deserved nothing but the best. I promised myself that I would never let the same thing happen again and warned others about falling into the pit of guilt that only years of prayer brought me out of.

I can still hear my mother cracking the biggest joke ever (as far as I was concerned) that “very soon you will have your own children and they will make you yell the way you are making me yell.” I think I was about 10 when she started sounding that warning, which I blatantly refused to accept.

What did she mean by “very soon?” In my young mind, that phrase was interpreted as many, many light years to come.

Time proved the authenticity of that statement. Twenty flew by so fast, then after the birth of my son at the age of 30, my mother’s statement couldn’t wait to welcome me to the reality of parenting. I found myself doing the same yelling and scolding as my mother. It was then I understood what I was doing to her back then.

Funny thing is, when I was 11, I wrote my mother a special poem about how much she meant to me and pinned it on the door of her room. She was very touched after reading it, and I was glad to see her so proud of me. About two weeks later, I can’t remember exactly what I did, but she gave me the scolding of my life. I am sure you can imagine what my displeased mind did. I yanked the poem I had written with
‘so much love” from her door, tore it to pieces, and deliberately left it on a table by the door to her bedroom. When my mother saw it, she scolded me, and to make matters worse, told me “I did not even like that piece of nonsense you call a poem.” I was hurt, but I did not realize my mother was hurt as well. It was later on she told me how bad she felt when she saw the shredded bits of paper that professed my love and admiration for her.

Toward the end of her life, she stayed with me in Dallas and we loved and fought hard. I hear it is a common syndrome between first daughters and their mothers. Although I gave those last days a good shot, I know in my heart that I could have done better. I hid under the umbrella of pregnancy to avoid doing some things I could have done for her. I wish I’d carved out more time to take her places, to push her in her wheelchair in the park, to give her a manicure and pedicure myself and even to brush her hair. I wish I’d taken the time to discover where to buy the best mozzarella and prosciutto for her. (She was a huge fan of Italian food.) I know I could have done much more. She left the world before my sister and I were able to get to her bedside. The guilt plagued me for a long season, but I have released it to the Lord and watched His peace fill the void her absence created.

What is that thing your parents like or want to do that you are not creating the time for? Do you only honor them on Mother’s and Father’s Day? If so, this is an opportunity to rewrite the story of your relationship with your parents with the pen of love, affection, and attention. Happiness depends to some extent upon external conditions, but chiefly upon mental attitudes. In order to be happy one should have good health, a well-balanced mind, a prosperous life, the right work, a thankful heart, and above all, wisdom or knowledge of God.â

SRI RAM CHANDRA ââAny action, whether it is good or bad, which forms impressions in the mind in creating samskara and, in the spiritual sense, is undesirable. Sinning would appear to be certainly not as bad as the brooding over the sin, because brooding drives the impression deeper and deeper into the mind where samskaras of such hardness are formed that much subsequent effort is required to clean the system. Our Master (Sri Ram Chandraji) advises us to forget the past. The past should not worry us because it is the past, and we can do nothing to change it. What should concern us is the future which we can affect by our present action. The immediate past is of no more consequence than the more distant past. So, we must think all past actions to be those of a past life. This will make it easy to ignore them and to concentrate on laying the basis for future spiritual development.â

SRI SUKTAM ââ0 Agni, may You propitiate Mahalakshmi, the destroyer of demons but merciful to Her devotees, abode of auspiciousness, bestower of total protection, extraordinarily beautiful, bedecked with valuable ornaments, shining like a thousand suns; may that Hiranmayi, the golden coloured Goddess, be pleased with us.â

We all need more love, for love is a magical, transforming power. When we let it into our hearts, our entire world shifts. Nothing else truly matters except the way we give and receive love.

The 13th-century Persian poet, Jalal-ud-Din Rumi has been characterized as one of the unsurpassable mystic poets of mankind. His work, written in the Sufi tradition, is an exploration into the meaning and miracles of love. Rumi’s writings have been translated into many languages; he is now one of the most universally read spiritual writers of our time.

Love has ever delighted and perplexed, inspired, and confounded. We want to visit love from every imaginable angle. How this celebrated and mysterious emotion has been and ever will be, is the one enduring obsession of humankind.

Love has the ability to teach us things that the most extravagant and respected university could never do; it is love that gives merit to all things. At some point, a magical person will step into our lives. Coming from an ordinary place, seemingly for no reason, an individual appears whose fascination with life is so gorgeous and rare, so unpredictable and spiritual that, without any exertion at all, we are enchanted with their miraculous gift for living. Rumi is one of those people.

Many scholars have been studying Rumi’s work for the past several decades. Rumi’s life was a vision of electric ecstasy; his writings take us on a mystical journey to a foundation of love via divine philosophy. His treatises on love cultivate an essential importance, which brings awareness to the substantial spiritual transformation that is taking place in our contemporary culture. Rumi’s poetry brings us face to face with a unique understanding of the profound relationship between revelation, ecstasy, adoration, love, and suffering; and our authentic growth as spiritual beings.

Rumi is the kind of poet whose work exemplifies that energy of mysterious passion that all seekers wish to experience for themselves. The work shows us how to fuse our sacred spirit with love so we can discover the limitless potential that we will need to continually nourish our souls.

Self-love and self-care are not the same as selfishness. When we are being the love of our own life, when we stop seeking it outside, then we are on the easiest road. An act of loving ourselves like nothing else is the best kind of investment. If we truly desire “big love” in our lives, we must love ourselves first. This is the ultimate reward of love.

Rumi’s sacred stories and poems refer to the forging of our self-loving emotions, which reflect our fiery imagination. They bring us into a life that that is rooted in our very essence. We learn to enrich our ability to see the deep, rich allegory behind our every living encounter. We want to explore various ways in which we might uncover the depths of our own humanness. We develop a desire to spread love through teaching and mentorship.

It is a sense of peace; to love a bystander, to love a stranger, to love an adversary, to adore everything we are capable of knowing, in all manifestations; to understand someone’s feelings, sufferings, cruelty, disgrace, and anguish – is the spell of divine love.

Spiritual Discernment for the Word of God – Christian Myths and Fairy Tales

The Christian World is now full of false teachers and prophets, preaching things which the itchy ears love to hear. They bring you myths and fairy tales stating that Jesus will solve all your problems, selling the Gospel for offering and tithes. Truth in its original unadulterated form is not very appealing to the prevailing people of our age. We now live in the world of instant gratification of our soul. We constantly seek the quick fix to all our problems when in reality we took many years to build the wrong values and principles in our lives and yet we hope against all odds that within one single moment or even in a single day that all the repercussions and the impact of our wrong actions will be taken away instantly.

The irresponsible preaching by preachers who do not know or uneven understand the heartbeat of the Lord our God, constantly aired their misconstrued opinions as Gospel truth. These over zealous preachers sell the Gospel as an ultimate cure it all. Before I proceed to explain the deeper issues there, please do not think I am against the fact that Jesus can solve all problems since he is God. The subtle difference between a God who can solve it all and the matter of the fact of whether he will solve it for you is entire two difference truth. We can not assume that just because the bible contains 6,800 blessings that all these blessings will automatically come upon a person once he says the sinners’ prayer and once he is baptized. If that was the case, then all Christians would be Billionaires, very healthy, and have great material and spiritual wealth, yet we do not see this for a fact. Don’t forget there is still the matter of justification, sanctification and glorification. Before God will bless you with anything, you have to repent of your past sin, make amendments to change and with the help of God work out the changes. This is not super grace without effort, super grace without righteous work yes, but not without effort, you still have to read your bible and walk towards the light willingly by hearing the promptings of the Holy Spirit and obey its guidance and to do the will of God and not your own will; as in thy will be done not my will.

Myth Number One: Jesus will heal all your disease all the time.

As far as I know, Jesus can heal all disease, but whether he will heal yours is another matter all together. If accepting the Lord will cause your disease to go away and you then live a disease-free life then this is a myth. If you do not believe me, simply ask your fellow Christians if they are suffering from any health issue and you will find that Christians who are baptized, tongues and spirit-filled sons of God still have health problems. Then again you might not have attended prayer request sessions where lots of Christians who are already saved and are still sick and having illness which did not go away. Coming to Jesus does not ensure you get a sick free life and live happily ever after, that is not the right theology of God. Read the Book of James and you will know the truth.

Then we come to this scripture which says by His stripes we are healed in the book of Isaiah, and preachers always quote this to infuse the meaning that coming to Jesus will cause your disease to disappear all together.

Isaiah 53:5 (King James Version)

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Strangely enough, I have still yet to see God healing the amputees of their legs or hands. If God will solve all our problems once we become a Christian, why wouldn’t God re-grow limbs of Christians? I have seen pastors with no right arm. However, Jesus did say this:

Matthew 5:29 (New International Version)

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Exodus 15:26 (New International Version)

26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

I have seen Christian intercessor or prayer warrior coming down with a stroke or half body paralysis. I have also seen pastors with nose cancer. I have also seen sincere Christians with diabetes and high blood pressure. Why did the Lord God not take away all these diseases as the preachers have claimed? Did God lied when he said what he would do, or did the preachers preached something which God did not say? This is a warning from the Lord for those who speak presumptuously on behalf of God when in fact it is there own words and not the words of God.

Jeremiah 27:15 (New International Version)

15 ‘I have not sent them,’ declares the LORD. ‘They are prophesying lies in my name. Therefore, I will banish you and you will perish, both you and the prophets who prophesy to you.’ “

The Truth for these people mentioned above is that there is sin in their lives. But didn’t Jesus forgive them of all their sin, past present and future, once they accepted Christ? The Truth is you need to acknowledge your sin, repent and go through a Sanctification process. The first Christian intercessor mentioned above had harbor hatred in her life against her husband and was not forgiving thus, she developed stroke on her left part of her entire body. The second being the pastor who got nose cancer which was a result of having judged someone very strongly without mercy and therefore it manifested as a nose cancer. Nose represents the matters of judgment. The third case of the diabetic was a problem with eating disorder, you are what you eat and the physical health of a person is determined by what he eats. I have also seen parents who believed this myth that when you pray to God he will always heal you and they refused to send their children to the doctors because they believe God will heal them. The result was a disaster, their kid died, so now they come to hate God for not fulfilling his promise as a healer.

Have you ever thought why God made some Christians to be medical doctors? Why would a healer God need medical doctors if he did not intend for us to be treated by them sometimes. I would like to suggest that each time we come to an impasse situation, God will create a miracle to solve our problems since we have no way out, but if there was an easier way God would almost always use that way. God works in many ways and we can not and should not force the hand of God to move the way we want him to act. This is called testing God, and Jesus caution us against this believe, when Satan tested Jesus’ understanding by asking him to jump off the building to see if you was indeed God’s son.

Did God actually promised them to heal their kid or did the preachers preach that God promised he would heal all the time no matter what, as long as it is written in the bible? These people do not understand the meaning of the Rhema Word. Static words taken from the bible can not be used literally at times because it’s not the current word, the letter without the Spirit will kill. In the days of Moses, the manna when kept for more than a day will produce maggots. The manna from heaven is symbolic representation of the Rhema Word.

Deuteronomy 8:3 (New International Version)

3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

The Rhema Word is a word given to someone by God’s authorized and anointed messengers to fulfill his promise of what he would do at the present moment in time. If you don’t get this Rhema Word then God has no responsibility to fulfill anything for you since he did not say so to you. The other matter is that you need spiritual discernment to know which one is the Rhema Word from God and which one is of men and not God. Standing on the Bible promises without the actual consent from God is really foolish. But again, how can you know the consent of God when you can not even hear his replies?

Lamentations 3:37-38 (New International Version)

37 Who can speak and have it happen
if the Lord has not decreed it?

38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that both calamities and good things come?

If we look carefully at the verse in Exodus 15:26 again, you shall see that there is a condition which God has stated and if you follow that diligently then he will not bring any of the disease upon you. But, many have now come to denounce the importance and truth of the Old Testament, saying, Jesus has done away with the Law. This is another misunderstanding on the part of the “Prosperity Gospel Preachers”. I lump all these materialistic seekers and super grace preachers under this label since they go hand in hand, because they have denounced the need for the Old Testament. But are they really ignoring the Old Testament, oh no, I don’t think so, they seem to love Malachi 3:10 quite a bit when it comes to offerings time. But when it comes to punishment and wrath of God, they run back to the New Testament of grace, forgiveness and mercy; aren’t they like the Pharisees of the olden days? You can not pick and choose what you like in the bible to follow its everything within that you have to observe obey and follow.

Can anyone pick and choose what they like and follow partial truths? That would again result in idolatry since they make up their own rules and regulations. Jesus warns his disciples not to follow those who fabricate traditions and preached it as Gospel truth.

1 Timothy 4:7 (New International Version)

7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

2 Timothy 4 (New International Version)

1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Surely, God can not lie, but then why is it that the preachers continue to say the things which God did not sanction. These preachers have sold the Gospel truth for Church growth and wealth. They wrongly think that because they are getting more sheep that God has blessed them. With more sheep comes more offerings and with more offerings come wealth. If wealth alone is a result of being blessed than all the pimps and drug lords of the world would have been very blessed by God. If more sheep is the result of being blessed, than the entire non-believing pagan people would be very blessed since there are more of them than us.

But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
